A few plain rules for using Sparks. By setting it up for a child, you agree to them.

Who it’s for

Sparks is for children, used with the knowledge of a parent or carer. A grown-up sets it up and chooses whether Professor S and the Curiotron are on. You are responsible for how it is used on your device.

Some of it is written by AI

Professor S’s answers and the Curiotron’s stories are written by an AI model as they are asked for. They are checked by rules, not read by a person first, and they can contain mistakes. Check anything that matters.

Usernames and using it fairly

A username goes on any story your child sends to Sparks that’s added to the library, so choose a made-up one, never a real name. We may remove a username that isn’t suitable.

Don’t use Sparks to ask for anything harmful, hateful or unsuitable for children, and don’t try to get round its limits. There are daily limits on questions and new stories, and we may stop requests that look like misuse.

Coins

Coins are earned by reading and learning, and are just for fun. They can be spent in the Sparks apps, but can’t be bought, sold or swapped for anything else, and they have no money value.

Stories sent to Sparks

By sending a story to Sparks, you let us add it to the Sparks library, change it as we need to (adding pictures, for example) and show it with your child’s username. If you’d like one taken down, write to us.

What’s ours

The app, its stories, pictures, videos, recordings and characters belong to us.

No promises we can’t keep

We work to keep Sparks safe, accurate and running, but we provide it as it is. Parts that need the internet may sometimes be unavailable. As far as the law allows, we aren’t responsible for losses that come from relying on it. Nothing here takes away rights the law gives you.

Changes and contact

We may update these terms; the date below shows when. If you keep using the app after a change, the new terms apply.
